POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a teenager suffered a fractured cheekbone during an unprovoked attack on the Trans Pennine Trail in Warrington.
The incident hapened at around 3pm on Wednesday August 7, when the victim ? a 15-year-old boy ? was walking with his brother along a footpath on the Trans Pennine trail from Forrest Way in Great Sankey through to Fidlers Ferry.
The pair were approached by a group of young men who were on bicycles. One of the young men veered from the group and punched the victim in the face as he rode past. He then continued to cycle towards the local tip.
The young men are described as white, aged in their late teens and wearing dark clothing. One of the group spoke with a local Warrington accent.
PC Alison Edwards said: “This would appear to be an unprovoked attack, which has left the victim with facial injuries, which will require further treatment.
“We take any incidents of this nature seriously and are trying to piece together as much information as we can in a bid to trace those responsible.
“The incident took place mid afternoon when it was still light and we would urge anyone who may have been in that area around that time and has seen anything significant to contact us.
“We are particularly keen to speak to anyone who may have seen a group on bicycles along the footpath around that time.”
Anyone with any information is urged to call Cheshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 609 of 7 August.
