Borough wins another Green Flag

WARRINGTON Borough Council has won its 11th Green Flag award for outstanding management of parks and open spaces.
The Department for Communities and Local Government has revealed that Warrington Cemetery has met the demanding criteria for the Green Flag Award – making 11 Green Flag parks and open spaces managed by the borough.
In fact there are at least three more run by community groups – Lumb Brook Millennium Green, Appleton, Walton Lea Nursery and Long Lane Garden Centre.
The council’s executive member for leisure, community and culture, Cllr Kate Hannon, said: “We’re delighted that Warrington has been awarded yet another Green Flag for an outstanding area of green space.
“Being awarded Green Flags involves a great deal of work by a lot of people. We only get this award where we put a special effort into the park or open space in question. So we need to thank all those council workers, the gardeners and the managers, for making Warrington’s green spaces special, and for bringing honour and recognition to the town like this.
“But above all the council would like to thank everyone who works with us to maintain and improve our parks and open spaces, not least the Friends groups and all the volunteers who give up their time to do something really valuable for their community and their town.”
