Woman loses planning battle

A WOMAN has lost a planning battle over a proposed two-storey extension at her home in Stockton Heath, Warrington.
Sally Thompson appealed against Warrington Borough Council’s decision to refuse permission for her to demolish a single-storey rear extension and build a part single storey rear extension and two-storey extension at the house in Beech Road.
The main issue was the impact of the extensions on an adjoining house – and planning inspector Matthew Birkinshaw decided the two storey extension would have an overbearing and dominating form affecting the other house and dismissed her appeal.
He noted that the council had no concerns over the single-storey element of the proposal and he saw no reason to disagree. But as the applicant had not indicated whether they would wish to implement this part of the scheme in isolation, he had dismissed the whole appeal.
