A WARRINGTON Wolves community scheme designed to inspire local youngsters to learn new skills has received a £5,000 boost from Appleton firm Flextronics.
The Children’s University project is a programme that provides seven to 14-year-olds with exciting and innovative learning activities outside of normal hours.
First team players Garreth Carvell and Ben Currie joined club mascot Wolfie at Flextronics to collect the cheque on behalf of the Wolves’ Charitable Foundation.
England international Garreth said: “The £5,000 donation is fantastic news for our Foundation and it means we can carry on doing some great work in the local community, helping teach local kids new skills that will serve them well in the future.
“We were also given a tour of the site and it was great to understand a bit more about the company. It’s a huge firm doing some really interesting work and I think young children taking part in the Children’s University will be fascinated to come and see Flextronics for themselves.”
The Children’s University is a national project that offers children their own ‘passport to learning’, encouraging them to spend their own time completing activities that count towards nationally recognised awards received for 30, 60 and 100 hours of extracurricular learning.
Flextronics General Manager, Mike Meades, said: “Our link-up with the Warrington Wolves Foundation and our support of the Children’s University form part of our drive to connect with young people in the community and help them improve key skills.
“We manage more than 70,000 spare parts and we repair thousands of PCs for individuals and businesses every year. By supporting the Children’s University, we’ll be able to share our expertise with young people.”
