Cycle safety drive

NEW road safety messages will be seen across Warrington from next week in a borough council effort to improve cyclists’ safety.
From Monday, the variable message signs which are used to display traffic
information on major roads will also be able to provide advice for drivers on how they can help make the roads safer for cyclists.
The new messages will be displayed regularly at the 20 signs located across the borough.
The council’s lead member for highways, Cllr Linda Dirir, said: “The
council has listened to calls from local cycle campaigners to help improve safety for cyclists in Warrington.
“Many of the collisions on roads today between cars and bikes occur at junctions. I am thankful for Warrington Cycle Forum’s suggestion to use our message signs in this way and hope that drivers will be increasingly aware of cyclists sharing the roadspace”

  1. Maybe the signs should display messages that make cyclists use the very expensive cycle lanes and paths that are all over the town; instead of cycling on the overcrowded roads…. in fact, why not make it an offence to cycle on the road when cycle lanes and paths are available? The Police could lay off the poor motorist for a while then and screw some money out of the ignorant cyclists…. they would soon be moaning if I decided to drive on their cycle lanes because I couldn’t be bothered to use the roads….
