Double hat-trick for Warrington Charities

GOLDEN Square’s security staff put their football skills to the test this week in aid of two of the town’s best-loved charities.
Budding Beckhams from Golden Square Shopping Centre went head to head with Network Warrington bus drivers in a bid to raise £1,600 for the Peace Centre and St Rocco’s Hospice.
Golden Square Guest Safety Officer Chris Heaton, 29, from Warrington, has been organising charity games over the past few years and hopes that this year will see even more opportunities to support local causes.
He said: “The Peace Centre and St Rocco’s Hospice are two local charities that deserve a huge amount of community support to continue the amazing work that they do. It was great to see so many people show up to cheer on the players and support the charities.”
The Peace Centre had previously been Golden Square’s ‘Charity of the Year’ and St Rocco’s Hospice was swiftly added to the agenda in support of a Warrington Network bus driver who sadly passed away following a battle with cancer.
The Golden Square Team Captain added: “Both have such strong purposes and this year it hit even closer to home due to this recent tragedy. We wanted to show our support for both the charity and the family.”
The game, which concluded with a respectable 3-3 score, saw local footwear retailer Funky Dory sponsor the Golden Square team, as well as receiving national support from the shopping centre’s parent company, Lend Lease.
