Old terrace makes way for store

AN old terrace of two houses and a shop can be demolished to make way for a modern retail store with four
apartments above it, Warrington planners have decided.
Members of the borough council’s planning committee have approved the proposals for a site in Bewsey Road,
Warrington, adjacent to Hampton’s MOT centre.
One objection was received to the plan, on the grounds the existing terrace had a heritage value and that its
replacement with a modern design would not be in character with the area.
But planning officers said the building was not listed, did not appear on any local list, was not in a conservation
area and could not, in any way, be said to be a heritage asset.
Any harm suffered by the loss of the building would be minimal.
While the retail unit would be outside the town centre, it would be only 135 square metres so there was no need for a retail impact assessment.
