Dementia tsar in town

ENGLAND’S first dementia tsar, Professor Alistair Burns, was the keynote speaker at a conference in Warrington.
The event saw joint hosts 5 Boroughs Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, Warrington Borough Council and Alternative Futures Group (AFG) working together to shape the future for people living with dementia in Warrington.
It was attended by more than 70 delegates from health and social care services, third sector organisations, carers and older people’s groups to engage and think about new ways of delivering support.
Other speakers included Stephen Reddy, interim executive director, Neighbourhood and Community Services, Warrington Borough Council, Cllr Pat Wright,the council’s executive member for health wellbeing and adult Services and Sally Percival from the national Think Local Act Personal Partnership.
Professor Burns, the national clinical director for dementia for England said: “There’s a great deal of public interest in dementia and this conference brings together all the key partners who can help build on previous initiatives to make a real positive difference to people with dementia, their families and carers.”
Angela Boyle, community services director for AFG said: “We’re making a commitment as an organisation to support this work to ensure that Warrington people living with dementia have the best possible choices and support. Today has been about sharing best practice and developing some real and practical actions for partners to take forward in the coming months to ensure that we achieve this goal”
