Ade set to tackle Kilimanjaro

WOOLSTON man Ade Cunliffe will bid to climb Mount Kilimanjaro in August to raise money for the Steve Prescott foundation.
Prescott, a former St Helens and Hull rugby league player, was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer in September 2006, and given months to live.
He has since raised almost £500,000 through his Foundation to help in the fight against cancer, and find a cure.
Ade, aged 38, will climb up and down Kilimanjaro, the highest free-standing mountain in the world at 19,341ft above sea level, in just five days, the fastest time you are allowed to attempt the climb.
He said: “I will be facing many challenges, but by far the biggest challenge will be Altitude sickness—also known as Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS).
“My body will not be used to the thin air as we climb the mountain, so I have no idea how I will hold up, but seeing as I am doing the climb for Steve Prescott MBE, a guy who has become an inspiration to me over the past 7 years and has endured constant pain, I am sure any migraine, nose bleeds, burst ear drums, blurred vision, vomiting will be accepted, and I simply push on until the summit is reached.
“Training has already started, with climbs up Snowdon, Scafell and Ben Nevis. The Yorkshire three peaks. And grueling hill runs whilst wearing a heavy back pack. With lots more hills to climb and many more miles to run.
“So if you or your business can spare some £££ as a donation/sponsor, or if you can help by donating a prize I can raffle at upcoming events OR if you want to come along and join in on some training walks, please do feel free to donate & also spread the word. Every penny and and every pound counts in our fight to find a cure.”
Ade’s climb starts on August 29.
