30 years on – another takeaway plan

ANGRY residents have lodged objections to a plan to open a hot food takeaway shop at Warrington – 30 years after a similar application was thrown out.
Seven previous applications in Orchard Street, Fearnhead, have been refused planning consent – and one was also rejected by an independent inspector after it went to an appeal.
More than 60 letters of objection have been received from nearby residents who claim the development would result in increase noise, traffic, parking problems, litter, smells and anti-social behaviour.
They also point out there are four existing hot food takeaway shops within five minutes walk of the site.
The proposal is to be put to the borough council’s planning committee on Wednesday, June 19.
Orchard Street has a history of controversial applications for takeaway shops dating back to 1983.
Seven previous applications have been made for food shops in a small shopping parade where there are three retail shops and a beauty parlour.
One, for a coffee shop, was approved but never implemented. The others – all for hot food takeaways – were all refused.
Planning officers are recommending the new proposal should also be rejected.
They say noise would inevitably be generated by the take-away as a result of cars stopping and starting, car doors closed, the playing of audio equipment and by people talking.
As it is a mainly residential area, with bungalows with open frontages, the proposed use is considered “highly inappropriate.”
The operation of the business into the late evening would cause a loss of amenity to nearby dwellings through additional noise and disturbance.
Local councillor Billy Lines-Rowlands is urging local residents to attend the meeting when the issue is debated to support those who are opposing the application.
