Tough warning to litterbugs

WARRINGTON Borough Council has issued a tough warning to people who litter the streets or allow their dogs to foul the pavements.
Members of its enforcement team are now under orders to take a tougher
stance against littering, fly-tipping, dog-fouling and illegal signage.
Cllr David Keane, the council’s executive member for environment and public protection, said: “It simply isn’t fair that Warrington’s council taxpayers should be forking out large sums of money every year because a minority of the population drop litter and allow their dogs to foul the pavements.
“It’s time for those people who mess up our streets to have a re-think, and accept that we all share the responsibility for keeping Warrington clean.
“So from now on, we’re going to be stricter about this. The polluter’s going to pay – and that can mean anything from a £50 fine for dropping a cigarette butt to a £50,000 fine for fly-tipping.”

  1. Half the people in this photo, represent other departments , many I see are in the food heigene team, others highways and admin workers. Ask the bosses how many litter enforcers W.B.C. employs?

When I worked as an environmental warden, we compiled evidence to take the dog fouling culprit to court only to be told by the legal section that it would cost too much money.

Time will tell whether this statement will be die a death as has happened in the past.

A reply to my comments would enlighten Worldwide readers please.

  2. Crikey, is it that time of year again already? It can’t be a year since the last “we’re getting tough on litter” story can it? Seems to me we’ve been getting tough on this as far back as I can remember and that’s a long time, so how is it that the problem still exists? I openly challenge Mr Keane to come back here a year from now and to demonstrate just how much more effective his measures have been in comparison with the past.

  3. Malcolm nothing like a bitter x employee to put a negative spin on a good peice of work, i must admit ive had great help from the councils enforcement they are not just there to kick ass but offer advice and guidance ! If that does not work then yes the big stick must come out ! Keep up the good work WBC

  4. Just true facts peter, not a bitter ex emloyer as you make out just coming out with the facts. Lets see if the sticks do come out time will tell.

How many people have been prosecuted in the last year then for litter and dog fouling????

Why on earth don’t you give your real name? I’ve had the guts to put my name on my comments. Are you one of the spineless bosses I questioned peter?

  5. Illegal signage???? Well they should start with that bloody kitchen company near the BT place at Callands…. they have been littering Cromwell Avenue with their luminous signs on sticks for the past 7 years and nothing is ever done about it…..
