Discord over housing plan

A PLAN to build a pair of semi-detached houses on the site of the former headquarters of Warrington Silver Band has struck a note of discord with nearby residents.
Twelve householders in Loushers Lane, Latchford have lodged objections to the plan put forward by Foden Estates Ltd.
They say the site should be retained as a community facility, that the houses will overlook adjoining gardens in Pearson Avenue and Secker Avenue, that the new properties will not be in keeping with others in Loushers Lane and that there will be additional parking and traffic problems.
The site was previously occupied by a single storey building used as a rehearsal room by the Silver Band.
Planning officers are recommending that the borough council’s development management committee approve the development – which already has outline planning consent.
A spokesman said: “Broadly speaking, the proposal involves the redevelopment of an existing previously developed site in an accessible location close to local facilities and services.
“It is not considered that the benefits of the building as a community facility were of such weight as to justify withholding planning permission for new development.”
Officers believe there is an adequate distance between the new houses and the nearest existing ones.
