WARRINGTON’S Foundation for Peace has called for a “considered response” following the terrorist atrocity in Woolwich.
The organisation – founded after the IRA bomb attacks on Warrington 20 years ago – says its thoughts are with murdered soldier Lee Rigby, his family and friends, the entire community of Woolwich and all those affected.
In a statement, they said: “It is important that we remember that the people who committed this act have been influenced by ideologies and narratives intended to divide our communities. We must not play into their hands.
“The Foundation supports people from all backgrounds and communities impacted by political violence including those affected by events like the 7/7 London bombings.
“We work with communities and individuals who face the backlash from such an event.
“We prevent violent conflict by challenging attitudes and behaviours of those who may be drawn to use violence to further their aims.”
Colin Parry (pictured), co-founder of the Foundation said: “As a father that lost a son to political violence I was appalled by the incident in Woolwich and the backlash.
“In response to our loss, with my wife Wendy, we created a charitable foundation to try to put an end to the cycle of violence.
“Over 18 years the charity has developed programmes that are now making a real difference in the prevention, resolution and response to violent conflict.
“The Foundation believes that a considered response is required and will continue to work to promote peace and non-violent conflict resolution through its unique approach and acclaimed programmes.
“We will be available to offer support following the Woolwich incident and to work over the long-term with all those affected.”
