A LONE angler was robbed at gunpoint as he fished at a Warrington beauty spot.
Two men – one brandishing what appeared to be a gun – stole his fishing gear and mobile phone and left him badly shaken.
The robbery was at Grey Mist Mere at Woolston on Tuesday (May 14) and police today issued an appeal for information from the public. The victim was a 37-year-old man.
One of the offenders was about 5ft 6 inches tall, of slim build and believed to be in his late teens or early 20s. He was wearing a dark, hooded top.
It has not been established whether the gun was real or not.
DC Stephen Deehan said: “Fortunately the victim was not injured as a result of the incident but he was left extremely shaken by the ordeal.”Incidents such as this are rare and, although no firearm was discharged and no injuries were reported, we take any incidents of this nature extremely seriously and will do all we can to trace whoever is responsible.
“We are carrying out a number of enquiries and are appealing for anyone who has any information in relation to the robbery to come forward.
“We would also appeal to anyone who may have been in the area at the time and has witnessed what happened or may have seen anyone acting suspiciously to contact us. Even the smallest amount of information can be vital when piecing together a case.
“We are also urging anyone who has any information regarding the identity of the offenders to get in touch.”
Anyone with any information is urged to call Cheshire Police on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, via 0800 555 111.
