CHESHIRE Fire and Rescue Service has been crowned winner of the Volunteer Programme of the Year at the national Social Impact Awards.
The awards celebrate and reward excellence in charities, not-for-profit and social enterprise organisations as well as public and private sector organisations who have made a ‘Big Difference’ in their communities.
Evan Morris, the Service’s Head of Community Safety, said: “Our volunteer programme was launched in 2005 and we now have 250 volunteers working across 11 different roles. They help us to make a real and measurable difference to the communities we serve.
“The work of our volunteers helps bring us ever closer to our vision of a Cheshirewith no deaths, injuries or damage from fire or other emergencies and is a role which is firmly recognised as part of the organisation. To win this national Social Impact award is testament to their hard work and commitment.”
Other winners included Halton Housing Trust, who scooped the Public Sector Social Impact Award, and Oxfam, who won Website of the Year.
