Walk to Work week

TODAY marks the start of National Walk to Work Week.
By walking to work you can reduce your carbon footprint, improve your health and get a chance to see the short-lived cherry blossom, all whilst saving your hard earned cash.
According to research, traffic congestion would be reduced by 20% if everyone who commutes by car used alternative transport for one journey a week.
Cllr Linda Dirir, executive board member for highways, transportation and climate change, said: “Walking to work is one of the cheapest and most convenient methods of transport and we hope that as many Warrington residents can take up the challenge as possible.”

  1. If people who commute by car didn’t do so one day a week (ie. 20% of the week) then congestion would be reduced by 20%. Which rocket scientist came up with that one? Talk about stating the bleedin’ obvious! Next week are we going to be told exactly HOW to get to work in Speke (for example, where I work) for a 7am start, and back again after a 7pm finish, without using a car?
