Rise and shine for the dawn chorus

SUNDAY is International Dawn Chorus Day – and an early morning walk has been arranged at Warrington to enable local people to appreciate it.
The three and-a-half walk through Windy Bank Woods at Glazebury has been organised by Bents Garden and Home.
Starting at 6am from Bents’ car park, John Bent and garden care colleague, Gordon Newman, will lead the walk through the wood, returning to the garden centre just in time for breakfast.
Walkers will be able to hear the chorus build into a beautiful crescendo as British birds such as the blackbird, robin and skylark are joined in their songs by summer visitors such as the willow warbler and chiffchaff.
Mr Bent said: “The dawn chorus is something everyone should experience at least once and this time of year is when it’s at is absolute best. It’s an early start but what a great way to start the day.”
Participants on last year’s dawn chorus walk were also treated to a sighting of a Wheatear, listed as amber in the RSPB’s categories of conservation.
Other birds that could be spotted on the Windy Bank Walk include buzzards, greater spotted woodpeckers, swallows and housemartins as well as other early morning wildlife such as roe deer.
Walkers are urged to take binoculars and cameras to record the event. Bents will be inviting participants to post their pictures in a follow up blog to share the beauty of the breaking day with others.
