Free check-ups for rugby fans

RUGBY fans will be able to have free blood pressure and pulse checks during Warrington Wolves’ game against Hull on Friday, May 17.
As part of Action on Stroke Month, staff from Warrington Hospital and the Stroke Association will be on hand to advise fans on everything, from how to detect your pulse to the symptoms and how to reduce your risk of a stroke.
It’s the third year that the event has been held, with several high blood pressures being detected and referred on for advice and treatment during last year’s event.
A social media campaign will be run leading up to the game, with 19 people from across the town appearing on Facebook and Twitter to promote the event.
Jane Guy, family carer and support at Warrington’s branch of the Stroke Association said: “For every ten people who die of stroke, four could have been saved if they had arranged regular blood pressure measurements and then followed medical advice.
“It is vitally important that people make an appointment with their GP practice to have their blood pressure measured regularly. High blood pressure often has no symptoms and this campaign aims to raise awareness of this silent killer and save lives.”
