Death of well known businessman

WELL known local businessman Tony Baker, who for many years ran former town centre jewellers A Baker & Sons, has died following a lengthy illness.
His former business closed its doors in December 2011 due to a mixture of the recession and the jailing of its new owner.
The 104-year-old business based on Cairo Street, Warrington, closed when Laurence Levey, who had taken over the business from Mr Baker, was jailed in September 2011 after being found guilty of conspiracy to commit a robbery, leaving the business to go into liquidation.
A Baker & Sons first opened its doors in Warrington in 1907 and Mr Baker, was said to be “devasted” by the closure of his former family business.
Mr Baker was still a popular member of the Warrington Club and despite his illness still attended meetings when he could.
His funeral takes place at St Mathew’s Church, Stretton, on Thursday May 9.
