Wolves too strong for Bulls

WARRINGTON Wolves had too much power and pace as they beat Bradford Bulls 32-4 at the Halliwell Jones Stadium as Tony Smith handed Super League debuts to Danny Bridge and Glen Riley.
The Wolves got off to the perfect start after a repeat set of six from the kick off saw Simon Grix (pictured below left) in at the corner after just two minutes following a quick passing move. Hodgson’s conversion attempt hit the post.
A great break by Ben Currie supported by Mickey Higham set up good field position for Currie (pictured right) to go over to touch down a smart grubber kick. Hodgson added the extras to make it 10-0.
But the Bulls hit back following three consective penalties as Purtell went over after 21 minutes. The conversion attempt was wide.
Smith made his first changes bringing on Michael Mongahan for Higham quickly followed by Paul Wood and Glen Riley for Chris Hill and Mike Cooper and Danny Bridge for Currie.
Two minutes before the break Chris Riley went in at the corner following more good pressure which had forced the Bulls to make another drop out. Hodgson failed with the conversion making it 14-4.
The Wolves were awarded a penalty just before the break which Joel Monaghan lined up to take but his attempt fell just short makng it 14-4 at half-time.
Warrington continued to press at the start of the second half with Chris Hill returning to the action in place of Glen Riley.
On 52 minutes the pressure paid off with a trade mark try for Joel Monaghan who followed up a kick to score in the corner. But the conversion attempt was again wide making it 18-4.
Cooper returned for Wood while Higham took over from Michael Mongahan as the Wolves continued to pile on the pressure in the final quarter forcing yet another drop out.
Currie returned for Danny Bridge as the Bulls looked to get back into the game.
But the Wolves defence held firm and with nine minute left on the clock Hill flew over with Hodgson making no mistake this time to make it 24-4.
Some great pace from Richie Myler opened up space for Ryan Atkins to go over after 74 minutes but Hodgson was again wide of the target making it 28-4.
Warrington continued to pile on the pressure against a tiring Bradford defence with Bridge returning to replace Westwood and two minutes from time Grix went over for his second try, although Hodgson was again wide of the mark making the final score 32-4.
