Youth unemployment reaches 89%

LONG term youth unemployment in some parts of Warrington is as high as 89 per cent, according to MP Helen Jones.
At the same time, long term unemployment generally stands as high as 45 per cent in parts of the town, she claims.
The Warrington North MP has lashed out at the government over the figures.
She said: “The government is not doing enough to get people working.”
Ms Jones said: “The recent Budget announcements were a real let down to people in Warrington. What we needed was a change of direction and bold action to kickstart our flatlining economy and give real help to families on middle and low incomes – not more of the same failing policies.”
Instead, she said, the jobs crisis has deepened further according to new figures.
At the same time prices were rising faster than wages.
“It’s no surprise that the government’s own budget watchdog, the Office for Budget Responsibility, has confirmed that by 2015 people will be worse off than they were in 2010.”
Long term unemployment figures stand at 40 per cent, with some part of Warrington soaring to 45 per cent. Long term youth (16-24) unemployment is at 62 per cent, with some parts of Warrington as high as 89 per cent, according to the MP.
She added: “The figures are shocking and a clear indication that the government needs to do more. Since 2010, so many promises were made and it is appalling that halfway through the Parliament, Warrington is still being scarred by rising unemployment. Leaving the next generation to pay the brutal price of this government’s failed policies is simply unfair.”

  1. “The government is not doing enough to get people working.”

“the government needs to do more.”

    ” this government’s failed policies”

The MP never suggests what the Government should do or more importantly what her party will do.

  2. ….or even that these youngsters should get off their own backsides and go and do some of the jobs which employers are currently having to import eastern europeans to do!
