Disappointing defeat for Town

1

WARRINGTON Town’s final home league game of the season ended in disappointment with a 3-0 defeat at the hands of play off chasing Ramsbottom United.
Jon Robinson’s first half goal and second half strikes from Lee Gaskell and Mark Ayres, as well as the dismissal of Warrington’s Nat Kerr, condemned The Yellows to a third defeat in four games.
Ramsbottom were rewarded for their attacking endeavours, punishing Warrington for their slack defending from a Drew free kick. The Rams’ midfielder swung a testing set piece across the front of Dibble’s net and the unmarked Robinson
stretched furthest to tap his side in front and give them a goal advantage going into the half time interval.
The second half turned out to be one to forget for Warrington Town.
Three minutes in, Jon Newby suffered a shoulder injury after he slipped firing goalwards and was replaced by Ash Ruane and just before the hour mark, Ramsbottom doubled their lead. Dominic Smalley’s cross from the right flank was
tapped past the helpless Dibble at the front post by Gaskell, and Warrington’s back four were once again suspect to some poor marking.
Six minutes later, it got worse for the home side. Another Mark Drew free kick bounced past Warrington’s defence and Mark Ayres even had time to almost control the ball on the goal line, before nudging into an empty net to give the
Rams a comfortable three goal lead.
Kerr was giving his marching orders for violent conduct in the 71st minute but the game was lost before then. Rambsottom almost added to their scoreline with quarter of an hour remaining. Dibble’s poor clearance fell to the feet of Gaskell who attempted to lob the retreating on loan Bury stopper, who got back in time to prevent a fourth goal.

Warrington: Dibble, Coulter, Doran, Dogan (C), Kerr, McCarten, Fowler (Mooney 75), Mannix, Kilheeney, Newby (Ruane 48), Dawson (Davies 59)
Unused subs: West and Kinsey.

  1. Disappointing is an understatement More like capitulation.65% under-achieved. VERY sad considering it was the last home game and the sun was shining. Have they heard of PRIDE?
