Residents to meet on traffic survey

RESIDENTS of the Poulton North area of Warrington are being invited to a meeting to discuss the results of a traffic survey on Enfield Park Road.
The meeting will be at Cinnamon Brow Farm Community Centre on Tuesday, April 9 at 7pm.
Poulton North councillors, an officer from Warrington Borough Council’s traffic management department and a local Police Community Support Officer will be present.
The automatic traffic count was carried out recently on Enfield Park Road, near Solway and Gairloch Close.
Cllr Geoff Settle (pictured) said: “Last year I received a growing number of complaints about vehicles speeding along Enfield Park Road. A number of bollards were knocked over at two pedestrian crossings, St Andrews and Kinross Close with one incident ending up with a motor scooter in pieces.”
The meeting has been arranged so that residents can review comment on the results and consider options that may influence the speed and safety of vehicles on Enfield Park road.
Cllr Settle said: “I commissioned the traffic survey to see if it was down to people’s perception or if there was an underlining problem. I know for example that when I am waiting for the bus, I get used to the look and sound of passing vehicles. The louder tyre noise of the faster vehicles clearly stands out from the rest.
“I’m sure that the design of the road with its sweeping bends gives some motorists the impression that they can travel faster, especially those that have just come off the motorway. However there is a 30mph limit on Enfield Park Road and the street lampposts are the big clue to the speed that vehicles should be travelling at on this road.”

  1. Never understood this quoting of lamp post distance. How can you guestimate the distance when you are travelling at 30 or more?

A lot easier to paint it on the road every 100 yards or out mini 30 signs on the occasional lamp post. Other towns can do it, why not Warrington?

  2. I am beginning to think the potholes in some Warrington roads are actually a traffic calming scheme – you have to go slow or you’ll damage your car.
