Sherry – the secret of long life!

A SHERRY a day – that’s the secret to a long life.
That’s Marjorie Mills’ firm belief – and seeing as she has just celebrated her 100th birthday, she’s obviously entitled to it!
Marjorie, a resident of Culcheth’s CLS Holcroft Grange care home, celebrated her big day with a quiet party surrounded by close family and fellow residents.
She received a card from the Queen – and sampled a slice of centenary cake.
Marjorie said: “I was very surprised to get a letter from the Queen, it was lovely and made my day.
“Thank you to all my family and everybody at Holcroft Grange who made my birthday so special, it brought back lots of memories for me.
“I’ve seen a lot of brilliant inventions in my 100 years, but my favourites are the washing machine and colour television.”
A typist for seven years, Marjorie stopped working when she married her late husband Harry at the age of 23. Together, Marjorie and Harry had one son, Arnold, and lived in Rochdale until retiring to Astbury.
She has lived at Holcroft Grange since 2008 and enjoys activities including bingo and arts and crafts, going to the hairdresser every week and having her nails manicured.
And, of course, that all-important glass of sherry!
