Planners to inspect historic cottage

PLANNING chiefs at Warrington are to inspect a Grade 2 listed cottage after local councillors raised doubts about an officers’ recommendation that an extension plan be refused.
The proposals involves replacing a two-storey rear extension at Church Cottage West, Church Lane, Grappenhall with a new, part two-storey part single storey extension.
Officers claimed that while the principle of replacing the existing extension was not questioned, the proposed replacement would introduce modern feature which would not make a positive contribution to the character and appearance of the building.
But Grappenhall and Thelwall Parish Council and local borough councillor Mike Biggin said they believe replacing the 1980s extension would be appropriate.
They urged members of the planning committee to visit the site before reaching a decision – and the committee agreed.
