Peace centre open day

WARRINGTON’S pioneering Peace Centre is set to open its doors to the public and invite the local community to join a day of reflection and celebration to coincide with the town’s 20th anniversary commemorations of the IRA bombing.
The Tim Parry Johnathan Ball Peace Centre will be open on Saturday, March 16 from 14:00 to 17:00 and there will be activities for all the family.
The centre will be fully open so that the community can see behind the scenes, learn about the work of the Foundation for Peace and see the achievements thirteen years after the building opened.
There will be a theatre hosting talks and performances, a ‘peace of cake’ demonstration, arts activities (from origami to snowflakes!), reflection events, access to the grounds and young people’s play area (weather permitting), giant chess and connect 4 and the opportunity to see the facilities including the residential quarters.
There will be all sorts of food on offer as well as quiet areas set aside for those people who want a moment’s reflection on the day which resulted in the deaths of Tim Parry and Johnathan Ball in the bomb attack which also injured 54 others and affected many more people.
Nick Taylor Foundation Chief Executive extended the invitation to the community to join in: “the centre is always very busy so we rarely get the chance to open the doors and show our neighbours and the local community around. Most people tend to know us by just driving by. “The response from Warrington following the bombing was truly amazing and this building is a living memorial to the two boys who lost their lives and also all those affected locally. The day will be one of commemoration but also one to celebrate Warrington’s response.”
There is an attendance capacity and entry is free but guests must book in advance at http://peacecentreopenday.eventbrite.co.uk/# Transport details and parking will be sent to all those registering.
