Day of action for Fairer Tax

LIBERAL Democrats in Warrington are claiming that action by their party in national government has cut the income tax bill for thousands of local people.
Party members have been out in the centre of town collecting names on a petition asking for more tax cuts in the future.
Cllr Ian Marks, leader of the Lib Dem group on the borough council said: “This is part of a national Day of Action in support of our Fairer Tax campaign. “Putting more money in the pockets of working people was one of the things we went into Coalition to do. Fairer taxes were a top priority for us in our election manifesto.
“Labour left a system that clobbered people on low and middle incomes, yet allowed the rich to dodge paying their fair share. Our aim is to create a stronger economy and a fairer society enabling every person to get on in life.”
Lib Dem finance spokesperson, Cllr Peter Walker added: “We say that no-one should pay tax on the first £10,000 they earn. Under Labour, people paid income tax on any income over their personal allowance of £6,475. Due to Lib Dem action in government, the personal allowance has now increased and from April it will be £9,440.
“This means 24 million people will each be paying £593 less in the next tax year. We are now campaigning in government to raise the allowance to £10,000 giving a tax cut of £705. This helps move the burden of taxation away from the low and average paid to the better off.”

  1. Absolutely nothing to do with local issues. Take party out of local politics and we may get something done for the town instead of the interests of a political party….. as for the Lib Dems, they are finished nationally anyway come the next election….The rise of UKIP is coming!!!

  2. Instead of supporting Europe, Clegg should get us out and with all that money, taxes can be cut. These councillors need to find something worthwhile to do and earn their money.

  3. Certainly you can forget about fair tax policy with UKIP they would have no higher rate of tax, even for multi-millionaires. They would also scrap employer’s NI contribution – even for corporation tax-avoiding multi-nationals (NI being about the only way such businesses currently contribute) – leaving a greater burden for employees. As for “getting something done for the town” , forget it – UKIP would destroy public services.
