COUNCIL chiefs at Warrington are set to go behind closed doors to discuss the sale of the former Fordton Leisure Centre, in Sandy Lane West.
The matter is listed on the agenda for tonight’s meeting of the borough council’s executive board, under the urgency provisions for private meetings in the Access to Information rules.
Deputy leader of the council Mike Hannon (pictured) is to give a report.
A year ago, the council agreed to sell the centre to a developer with plans to build a supermarket, pub and café restaurant on the site.
Bids from five prospective developers were considered, but no details of the prospective purchaser nor the price offered were revealed.
At the time, Cllr Hannon said: “The offer represents the best consideration for the council in terms of price and most appropriate form of development.
“It consists of a small, neighbourhood supermarket, pub and café-restaurant.”
The centre was closed after the new Orford Park Jubilee Hub was opened.
It is understood the sale was subject to the purchaser obtaining planning consent.
Fordton Leisure Centre – originally a school building – was converted to a leisure centre with swimming pool about 30 years ago.
