Go-ahead for new school building

PLANNING bosses at Warrington have given the go-ahead for a super, new building for Woolston Primary School.
Members of the borough’s development management committee approved the scheme despite objections from nearby residents concerned about the loss of trees.
The existing two storey building will be demolished and replaced by a new, contemporary-style single storey building.
Planners say the existing school has inadequate facilities and poor quality buildings.
Neighbours were not opposed, in principle, to a new school. But they were concerned about its design, the fact that it was nearer to their homes and about the loss of mature trees fronting their properties.
They wanted discussions with a a view to retaining the existing tree line and maintaining a “green barrier.”
Councillors were told the new school would cater for 210 pupils, compared with the 256 accommodated at the existing school.
But pupils numbers in the area were expected to fall.
A total of 51 trees will be removed and 60 new ones planted and the proposals include a hard play area, a multi use games area and an under-12 grass pitch.
