Wolves secure more young talent

WARRINGTON Wolves have secured a further three young stars ahead of 2013 with Rhys Williams, Gene Ormsby and Gavin Bennion all agreeing new contracts.
Welsh winger Rhys Williams (Pictured right) has agreed a two-year deal until November 2014 with Gene Ormsby and Gavin Bennion signing three-year deals until November 2015.
Rhys, 22, is a product of the Warrington youth system and made his first team debut back in March 2010. He made nine first team appearances for the Wolves in 2012 whilst also gaining Super League experience in Castleford colours during a loan spell at the Tigers mid-way through the season.
He also made his mark on the under 20s side playing in the Valvoline Cup Grand Final winning side in September of this year.
Originating from Wales Rhys became the country’s top Rugby League international try scorer of all time in June this year when he scored two tries in their game against France and he continues to represent Wales on the international stage.
Rhys said: “I’m thrilled to have signed again. I’ve been at the club for a fair few years now so am happy to extend my stay.
“I’m just looking to play as much as I can and get as many games under my belt as possible. Competition is strong for every position at Warrington which certainly makes everyone train hard and is probably why the club has been so strong; everyone’s fighting for places one to 13.
“It’s also great to see a few more young players sign-up again. I think they’ll start to come through and we’ll see a lot more debuts next year, which can only be good for the club.”
And on his international game: “The World Cup is coming round much more quickly than I thought, with less than a year to go it’s going to be a big event. Playing for Wales is important to me and I can’t wait but obviously the season comes first and is important first and foremost.”
Both winger Gene, 20, (pictured right) and second rower Gavin, 18, have now made the step-up from the club’s academy to train full-time with the first team squad. They have both made an impression playing for the under 20s side notably in this year’s team that finished top of the table, winning the Valvoline Cup Grand Final against Leeds.
Gavin (Pictured left) also represented the club’s under 18s side last year and was one of the three Wolves’ players to take part in England Academy tour of Australia back in August.
Warrington Wolves are once again investing in the club’s future by securing young, upcoming players for the next few years.
