Pensioner duped out of jewellery

A 70-year-old man was duped into allowing a sneak thief into his home at Warrington – and lost a quantity of jewellery as a result.
Police are hunting two men who carried out the theft at a property in Queens Avenue, Glazebury and today issued an appeal for help from the public.
They would like to hear from anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area around 11am on October 25.
The two men knocked on the door and asked the occupant if he wanted to sell any jewellery.
They engaged the man in conversion – and then asked if they could use the toilet.
One man entered the property and searched a bedroom, stealing the jewellery, while the other man stayed outside.
Police say one man was aged 35-40, around 5ft 10 inches tall, of stocky build with short fair hair. The other was about 30, about 5ft 9 inches tall and had dark hair.
DC Stephen Page said: “We are urging anyone who witnessed what happened or was in the area at the time and has seen anyone acting suspiciously to contact us.
“We are also urging residents – particularly the elderly and vulnerable – to be extra vigilant when answering the door to any unexpected callers.
“If you are unsure regarding the identity of the caller then keep them out – particularly if you are on your own. Ask them to make an appointment or come back later when someone else can be present in the house.
“If you’re suspicious then report the incident to the police immediately.”
Anyone with information about the incident is urged to call Cheshire Police on 101 or via the confidential Crimestoppers hotline 0800 555 111.
