A NEW initiative planning for Warrington’s future growth and economy has been launched.
The Warrington Skills Commission is being led by Warrington Borough Council’s interim chief executive Professor Steven Broomhead and executive director of Children and Young People’s Services Kath O’Dwyer. Representatives from Warrington Chamber of Commerce, the NHS, the Cheshire and Warrington Local Enterprise Partnership, schools and colleges and the private sector are also on board.
The commission is keen to ensure as many stakeholders as possible contribute their views to debate.
Two workshops will be arranged in the coming weeks, the first for the business sector and second for the education and skills sector.
There will also be an opportunity for organisations and individuals to make representations at a public meeting in December.
Information gathered in all these forums will be combined with local intelligence and national research in the final findings report which is expected to be published in the new year.
Professor Broomhead said: “What I would like to say to local businesses and skills providers is if you have any ideas about improvements, share them. Or if you have examples of collaborative working which have resulted in improved skills, share them with us, make your voice heard.”
Kath O’Dwyer added: “Around 40 representatives from local businesses attended the launch which was a very encouraging start. This project offers a fantastic opportunity for all sectors to work together to secure our economic growth and sustainability whilst improving the life chances for the people of Warrington.”
