Jules aids breast cancer awareness

A WARRINGTON woman who was told she had terminal breast cancer on Christmas Eve 2010 – with a prognosis that she had less than 12 months to live, is helping raise awareness of the disease as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which starts on Monday.
Jules Roberts, aged 48, from Callands, is operating one of just 20 stands throughout the UK in Culcheth, promoting National TLC Day as part of Breakthrough Breast Cancer’s special campaign, which is being backed by ITV.
Now in its second year, this is a campaign born out of a real issue: that breast cancer kills 1,000 women every month and many of them might have survived if the problem had been detected earlier.
TLC stands for Touch Look Check – Breakthrough’s message to help women to be breast aware.
Jules said: “I am operating one of just twenty stands in the UK in Culcheth. We have lots of other things planned throughout the month including fashion shows, quizes and lots of stands around Warrington where free breast care information is available.
Working as a counsellor and her own experiences have certainly helped Jules with her positive outlook on life – drawing up a “bucket list” of “things I want to do before I die.”
Top of her wish list was to write a book – which she has now done with “Don’t cancel my newspapers yet!” which was published in June.
“When I was diagnosed as being terminally ill I searched for information on how to deal with it – and couldn’t find anything.
“My book is about my own experiences and things that you need to do and think about, including a bucket list of things to do before you kick it!
“ I am not fighting my cancer – I am living with it. I know I can’t beat it but I want to be happy with my life and co-exist with it – which I am doing in harmony at the moment!”
Jule’s progress can be followed on twitter @WITCHCOACH or on face book at Jules Roberts or via the website www.positivewomen.co.uk
Jules will be at her stand between 10:00 and 14:00 on Monday (Oct 1) at the Court Yard, Common Lane, Culcheth.
