A CAMPAIGN to mark Gas Safety Week (Sept 10-16) is running in Warrington in a bid to ensure that appliances are safe.
Golden Gates Housing Trust (GGHT) is urging people to take care and ensure their safety. It is launching a new, free cooker connection/ disconnection service to all residents.
Mark Siveter, gas servicing manager, said: “All our engineers at GGHT are gas-safe registered and we are pleased to be able to offer this very practical assistance to our residents whilst at the same time ensuring their safety.
“We also provide a number of additional services for our residents including a free gas appliance safety check every year and a smoke alarm service.”
Paul Johnston, chief executive at Gas Safe Register, said: “Every year, far too many people suffer from preventable gas related accidents, such as gas leaks, explosions, fires and carbon-monoxide poisoning. In the last year alone 18 people died and a further 399 were hospitalised.
“With Gas Safety Week we want to encourage the public to only use gas safe registered engineers to fit, fix and service their gas appliances and to raise awareness of the importance of having an annual safety check.”
He advises only using a Gas Safe registered engineer to fit, fix or service gas appliances, fit a carbon monoxide alarm and if people smell gas call the gas emergency number on 0800 111 999.
