Camp site homes back on agenda

PLANNING chiefs at Warrington are to again consider controversial proposals to build luxury homes on a historic military camp site in the Green Belt.
The scheme, put forward by Elan Real Estate, is for 25 four and five bedroomed houses off Lady Lane, Croft.
It has already been before the borough council’s development management committee once but was deferred to allow members to visit the site.
More than 400 residents have lodged objections, as has Croft Parish Council and local borough councillor Chris Vobe.
The developer has offered £30,000 towards the cost of highway improvements near St Lewis’ RC Primary School and £240,000 towards the cost of affordable housing elsewhere in the borough.
The site – known as HMS Gosling during World War 2 – is said to be the last of a number of military camps that once existed in the area.
The parish council says there is no need for more housing in Croft and that there are no sewage or gas supplies to the site, which is home to a wide variety of wildlife.
They believe there could be road safety issues arising from an unsatisfactory access to the site and that the development could lead to increased flooding in Lady Lane.
Additional housing could also exacerbate parking problems at St Lewis’ School.

  1. Correct Eagle What was the phrase

“We have profound sympathy for the Farmer but Green Belt comes first”

I have a feeling something Green may come first in this case, but it wont be belt.

  2. Well at least it clarifies what the council’s planning strategy is. Two days after a couple of residents were turned down planing permission for a development with no objectors that would have improved their lives because ‘the green belt comes first’, we have officers pushing the case for two applications on green belt land that do have objectors. So when it comes to planning applications it all depends on who you are.

Perhaps they could include this stipulation in all future planning strategies and guidance. To clarify further they could even cite these examples. ‘If you’re a developer, we’ll fight tooth and nail to get your application approved regardless of any local objections. If you’re a resident who can’t throw money at the application in one way or another, tough’.

  3. Exactly! Just what is going on the WBC Planning Sept? Are we going to get the promised clearout in order to clean up this Dept? If so when? It’s clear to residents just what is going on but Senior Officers and elected Councillors seem unable to deal with this Department. Can our Interim CEO act as he promised?

  4. HA HA its been approved complete and utter hypocrisy.

Apparantly the green belt doesnt always come first …………

My message to the people of Warrington is: if you live in or near Green belt land…………………it wont be Green for Long………!!!
