INITIAL results from Warrington schools and sixth form colleges show that the town is bucking the national trend on A Levels – with A*-C pass grades significantly up from 70.2 per cent last year to 75.5 per cent this year.
The percentage of students who achieved three or more A*-C A Level passes has improved from 42.9 per cent% to 48.1 per cent.
While the percentage of A*-E pass grades are up from 98.5 per cent last year to 99 per cent this year, the percentage of A*-A pass grades in the borough remains the same at 6.4 per cent.
The picture is similar for AS results and once again the percentage of local learners gaining A-E grades is up from 71.5 per cent to 73.5 per cent and A-C grades are up from 32.2 per cent to 32.5 per cent. A-B grades are also up from 15.1 per cent last year to 16.1 per cent.
Cllr Colin Froggatt (pictured), the borough council’s executive member for children and young people’s services, said: “I and everyone at the council are very pleased with the outstanding results our young minds have achieved once again this year. Our interim results indicate that Warrington continues to be a borough where the very highest quality of education is provided and we wish all our students the best of luck for the future.”
Nationally, the number of students getting top marks at A Level fell for the first time in more than 20 years following a Government crackdown on “grade inflation.”
But the overall pass rate increased marginally to 97.8 per cent – the 30th successive increase.
