WARRINGTON-born oarsman Richard Egington “gave his all” as he won a bronze medal with the men’s eight rowing team in the London Olympics.
After leading the undefeated world champions Germany three quarters into the race, the GB team had to settle for bronze.
After adding the bronze Olympic medal to the silver medal he won at the Beijing Olympics, along with his world championship medals, the 33-year-old former Lymm High and Priestley college student announced his retirement and was unable to hide his disappointment at not winning gold.
“I’ve had my time now and don’t want to carry on for another four years. It was disappointing not to win gold. But I gave my all and I don’t have any regrets.”
It was during his time at Priestley College where he studied some 14 years ago, that he developed his passion for rowing as a member of Warrington Rowing Club.
During his time as a student, Richard studied A-Levels in Sport, Chemistry and Biology before completing a University degree at Reading in Zoology.
