A49 to stay closed for 21 days

TOWN Hall chiefs at Warrington now believe the A49 at Stockton Heath could be closed to traffic in both directions for up to 21 days.
This is to allow United Utilities to carry out repair work to a collapsed sewer, which left a gaping hole in the road on London Bridge.
An alternative route for motorists is: London Road via B5356 Stretton Road, B5356 Grappenhall Lane, A50 Cliff Lane, A50 Knutsford Road, A56 Chester Road, A56 Grappenhall Road and vice versa.
Updates on the situation will be posted on the United Utilities website at www.unitedutilities.com/emergencies
The collapse took place on Sunday, June 17 and since then the A49 has either been closed, or open for one-way traffic only, controlled by temporary traffic lights.
United Utilities say the repairs represent a “challenging engineering job” due to the extent of the damage to the sewer and the difficult ground conditions.
They have pledged to carry out the work as quickly as possible and with as little disruption as possible – but lengthy traffic hold-ups are being experienced at peak periods.

  1. It's not a surprise then that our businesses are suffering in Stockton Heath. The A49 is not closed, it is only the London Bridge on the A49 that's closed, our customers are avoiding the village and they don't need to, it's like a ghost town here.
