Pay rise for foster carers

ALLOWANCES for foster carers in Warrington are to be increased.
From July 1 as part of the borough council’s commitment to recruit more foster carers and retain their own experienced foster carer base, allowances per week will be significantly raised.
Cllr Colin Froggatt, the council’s executive member for children and young people’s services, said: “We value the work of our foster carers and work hard to provide support for a task that can sometimes be challenging, but is always very rewarding.
“This increase in allowances is recognising the skills, experience and commitment of our foster carers and the role they play in working with families and in partnership with ourselves and our partner agencies.
“I genuinely hope that this increase in allowances will also encourage more people to come forward to carry out this vital role and help our young people to flourish and achieve their brighter futures.”
There are over 240 children currently in care in Warrington. Fostering allowances received are not taxable and do not affect any pensions or benefits.
