VOLUNTEERS are urgently needed to join “DAD’s Army” in Warrington to help with the annual Disability Awareness Day event at Walton Gardens.
The annual event, now celebrating its 21st anniversary, takes place on Sunday July 15 and more people are needed to join the “army” of volunteer stewards.
Last year’s event, organised by Warrington Disability Partnership, was a great success and was supported by more than 100 volunteer stewards.
The popular event attracts people from throughout the region and features information stands, music, sports, arts and entertainment for all the family.
In 2006 the DAD team was presented with the Queens Award for Voluntary Services for its exceptional volunteer work in the community.
Terry Cook, head steward, said: “Being part of this event is a very rewarding experience. It’s hard work but it’s also really good fun and the people you meet are amazing.”
Volunteer stewards will need to attend a health and safety briefing. The next meeting for volunteers will be on Wednesday June 20 from 8pm at Alford Hall, Manchester Road, Warrington. People can just turn up, or telephone Caroline Thompson on 01925 240064 to register.
