Lucas blows up a storm – on tuba

A 10-year-old Warrington boy has been awarded an Awards for Young Musicians bursary to assist him with his musical studies.
Lucas Boylan, from Walton, is a budding tuba player already attending the prestigious Junior Royal Northern College of Music for lessons with world-renowned tuba player Les Neish.
The Broomfields Junior School pupil plays for the multi-award winning Lions Youth Brass and has been selected for the National Clhildren’s Brass Band of Great Britain and the National Children’s Orchestra.
To cap matters, he will soon his the big screen in the Manchester United feature movie “Theatre of Dreams” playing the tuba in a brass band.
Lucas is one of 123 outstanding young musicians to win an award from Awards for Young Musicians (AYM).
The charity’s annual awards programme gives grants of up to £2,000 to exceptionally talented young musicians, aged 5-17.
The funding can be used to support making making in any genre, helping with costs such as buying an instrument, music lessons, course fees and travel.
AYM director Hester Cockcroft said: “Once more we’ve had a very high number of applications for support from young musicians from across the UK, so Lucas should be very proud of his achievement in gaining an award.
“Music is what defines these young people: it’s central the their life. We’re here to help them progress on their musical journey and give them the best possible chance of fulfilling their potential.”
