Store plan is creeping development

AN expansion plan at a Warrington supermarket amounts to “creeping development” according to a borough councillor.
Cllr Keith Gleave has objected to the proposed 61 sq metre expansion at the Asda store at Westbrook.
The proposed single storey extension would be to the east side of the building.
A previous extension plan, which also included car park improvements and relocation of the petrol station, was refused in 2005 because it was considered out of scale with the area, would create an unacceptable traffic impact and was in the vicinity of a hazardous installation – a Trans Pennine Ethylene pipeline.
Cllr Gleave says the previous application was refused because of traffic and the pipeline.
He believes the new proposal represents “creepage” to a similar position.
Planning officers say the increase in size would be “negligible”.
