Join in the market's jubilee spirit

IT’S the public vote that will decide the winner of a special jubilee themed competition being run by Warrington Market.
Market traders are really getting into the spirit of the jubilee celebrations by holding a best dressed stall competition and residents will get to vote and choose the winner.
The event will echo the Queen’s Coronation in 1952, when traders took part in a similar competition.
Traders are set to rise to the challenge of devising unique ways of decorating their stalls and visitors could be in with a chance of winning one of many prizes by voting for your favourite one.
The competition is split into two stages. The first round will start from Saturday June 2 as part of the Diamond Jubilee celebrations. Members of a selected judging panel will be looking at all stalls during the following week.
On Saturday June 9, as part of the town centre jubilee event, the judges will select nine stalls to go forward to the public vote in the final.
Photographs of the nine finalists will then be displayed in the market until Saturday June 23 and members of the public will be invited to vote for their favourite stall. Each vote cast will be entered into a free prize draw to win a variety of prizes.
The public will have the opportunity to make one vote per person, per day, until voting ends on June 23.
Prizes include vouchers, some worth £100, plus many items donated from stalls in the market. Full details and list of prizes available from the market customer information desk.
Cllr Mike Hannon, deputy leader of the council, said: “This will be a great competition and it’s a great link to the town’s history and jubilee that traders held a similar competition 60 years ago. I know the traders have already got some great ideas and so this will be a fun way for people to get involved in the town’s jubilee celebrations.”
The council is serving up a giant town centre “big lunch” event on Saturday June 9 between 10-4pm. There will be all sorts of family activities and attractions including a majestic parade of giant queens, swing boats, helter-skelter, knobbly knees competition and much more.
