THE number of young people in Warrington out of work for longer than a year has leapt by more than 1,000 per cent, according to MP Helen Jones.
The Warrington North MP has called on the Government to take urgent action.
She said the number of people aged 18-24 in receipt of Job Seekers’ Allowance for longer than 12 months in the Warrington North constituency increased by 1050 per cent from April last year to April this year.
Last year10 18-24 year olds were unemployed for longer than 12 months – this year thefigure now stands at 115.
Across the UK, long term youth unemployment has risen by 264 per cent over the same period.
Ms Jones said: “These figures are a damning verdict on the Tory-led Government’s failure to get the economy moving and reveal that young people are being abandoned by this Government.
“We know that extended periods of unemployment early in a person’s life can be extremely damaging to their future life chances. That’s why the Government needs to take action to help the growing number of young people in Warrington who want to work but are struggling to get a job.
“Labour’s Real Jobs Guarantee would create 110,000 jobs for young people that they would be required to take. I urge the Government to re-think its failed approach to the economy and to get it working for people in Warrington.”

  1. This MP has such a short memory – What were you doing in Government?? for ever £ paid in tax why did your Labour (i look after the working man government) spend spend £1.13p – how did you get the extra 13pence???????

  2. Terrible when MP,so are in denial. They lose all credibility. Surely her memory isn’t that bad that she has forgotten the financial debacle that Her party left?

  3. Bit of an 8 out 10 cats statistic ! the maths is correct but its only an increase of 104 people which is hardly headline stuff given the number of school leavers each year.

You’d think she’d pipe down now her own 18-24 yr old is off the list. That’s two of them to now beguile us with rhetoric and inaction
