Two bid to house the homeless

TWO organisations are bidding to provide single supported accommodation for homeless people in Warrington.
The borough council’s executive board have to decide who will be awarded the contract.
Currently, a key feature of accommodation and support for the homeless in Warrington is the Salvation Army’s James Lee House. But their contract expires at the end of July.
The hostel provides 54 beds for homeless men who can stay at the hostel for up to two years and are offered a package of housing-related support to enable them to develop independent living skills with a view to them moving on to their own accommodation.
Originally, 18 organisations expressed an interest in providing the service in Warrington but by the deadline only two were still in the frame..
The service specification has been altered to more accurately reflect the services required and makes clear links to the council’s rough sleeper strategy, improved access routes and consideration of admittance to women as well as men.
Council chiefs will award a contract lasting until 2015, with an option to extend for a further two 12-month periods.
