Mentors wanted for NEETS

THE search is on for Warrington people keen to mentor young people aged 16-19 who need extra support to get into education, employment or training.
The borough council’s children and young people’s services volunteering team is looking for adults to take part in the initiative.
Evidence shows that NEETs – young people who are not in education, employment or training – have significantly lower life chances than their peers.
Often all that is needed is for a young person to have a constant and supportive adult who will listen to them without judgement. Someone who will advise and steer them, help them set goals and raise their self esteem, and importantly stay with them on their journey until they find their feet.
A council spokesperson said: “The mentoring project will do just that. It will match a supportive mentor to a young person, and the pair will meet regularly to chat, plan and find the support that the young person needs to move on and secure a brighter future.”
Mentors will be fully trained and supported. Through mentoring they will gain valuable coaching experience and personal satisfaction, knowing that they have been instrumental giving a local young person a brighter future.
Anyone who thinks this could be for them is asked to contact the volunteering team for more information on 01925 636856 or email [email protected]
The deadline is Friday May 18.
