PUPILS at Newchurch Primary School, Culcheth, impressed judges in a “Titanic” poetry competition so much, they decided to increase the number of prizes on offer.

The competition, organised by forget-me-not toy and book shop in collaboration with Usborne books, gave Key Stage 2 youngsters to opportunity to write poems to mark the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic.
Naomi Simpson, from forget-me-not, said: “Originally, we were looking for a winner from each of the four classes.
“However, the standard was so high and we enjoyed reading the poems so much it was difficult to narrow it down. So we decided to award 12 winners with a Titanic sticker book.”
The winners were: Year 3: Ellyse Platt, Ava Appleton and Joshua Avery;
Year 4: James Davies, Adam Potts and Carla Yates; Year 5: Maya Bradley, Ellie Draper, Elise Simpson and Benjamin Smith; Year 6: Gemma Kubiena and Rio Krowner.
