Police authority's last chairman

MARGARET Ollerenshaw was unanimously re-elected as the last chairman of Cheshire Police Authority.
She will be in office until the Authority disappears in November when its role is taken over by a Police and Crime Commissioner.
She said, “The next few months will continue to be a challenging time for the Police Authority. We are working energetically to ensure a smooth transition to the new structure.
“We are continuing to work with the Chief Constable, Dave Whatton, to prevent government cuts in police spending having any negative impact on the service which the Constabulary offers to the public.
“This has involved a review of all aspects of policing. Changes are being made wherever efficiency and effectiveness can be improved.
“Our aim is to still deliver a good police service despite having fewer officers and staff. The success of what is being done can be measured by the fact that crime in Cheshire is continuing to fall and the links between Neighbourhood Policing Units and their local communities are stronger than ever.
“I have been Chairman of the Cheshire Police Authority for the past three years. It has always been a challenging role and those challenges will continue until November. We have a Transition Board working to ensure that everything is in place for November when the commissioner will be elected.”
The authority also re-elected Adrian Walmsley as its vice chairman.
