Church becomes new concert venue

A LYMM church is set to become a concert venue for the village as part of moves to increase its use as a community building with a special musical launch event later this month.
Some big changes have taken place at Lymm United Reformed Church recently which has made it a new concert venue for the village.
As well as being a place of worship, the church has always been keen to offer itself as a community building for other activities and the “Music in Lymm” series has been running successfully for a number of years under the guiding hand of Paul Cooper.
But concerts and other events have until recently been a little restricted by the pews which have now been removed to create a far more flexible space with comfortable seating.
“We are delighted with the result” said church treasurer Richard Pearce. “We recognise that as Lymm has grown so rapidly over the last few years it has needed more and bigger performance areas for all our local talent as well as visiting musicians. The new layout has given us so much more scope and the incentive to try out a more varied programme”.
With this in mind, the next concert on Sunday April 29 at 3pm sees a break from the classical tradition to an afternoon of music titled “Got the Magic” featuring local favourite Helen Monks (pictured) plus a backing choir of five, the sax of her father Michael Healey, mother Susan on keyboards and also introducing son Josh who was recently named young musician of the year at Lymm High School.
With Kerry Knight joining them on bass and local Cheap Cuts drummer Joe Bennett it promises to be a great afternoon of popular music of the very highest standard ranging from The Carpenters to Barry Manilow and Eva Cassidy.
“We are very excited to have this opportunity to share the music we love and look forward to a really special afternoon” said Helen who is also a professional singing coach.
There’ll be a guest appearance too from Alan Williams who has featured in and promoted a number of musical events in the village in recent years.
Tickets £10 / £8 available on the door, from Lymm Electric or on-line courtesy of Lymm Festival at www.lymmfestival.org.uk or call Richard Pearce on 01925 754480.
