Driving down car crime

POLICE are driving down car crime in Warrington West.
Officers from the local neighbourhood policing team are working closely alongside businesses in the area to target thieves.
Over the past few months there has been an increase in this type of crime across the area, with thieves targeting vehicles where valuable items, including laptops, mobile phones and sat navs, have been left on show.
They have also been targeting vehicles where the driver has been seen to store valuable items in the boot.
Patrols have been stepped up in hot spots in a bid to actively target those responsible and to reassure motorists.
As part of the crackdown officers have been visiting local businesses urging them not to give car thieves an easy ride.
The businesses have been given valuable security advice and have been asked to raise awareness of the issue with their customers.
Sergeant Gordon Jack said: “We are committed to tackling vehicle crime in Warrington West.
“As part of a proactive operation to tackle the issue officers have been visiting businesses in the area and giving them valuable security advice.
“They have been urged to pass this advice onto their customers.
“Businesses have also been asked to display signs in their car parks – an area traditionally targeted by thieves.
“Customers are warned not to leave any valuable items on display inside their vehicles whilst they are unattended.”
One business supporting operation is The Trigger Pond in Great Sankey. Staff at the pub have been working closely alongside local officer PCSO Joanne Coburn to tackle the issue.
Staff have been urging customers to remain security conscious and the Warrington Community Safety Partnership crime reduction trailer has been parked in the pub car park over the past few weeks.
During that time there have been no reports of vehicle crime in the pub car park.
